📚 Direct object
Many of us wonder: What are those words between sentences in Spanish? 😣 Like “lo,” “la,” “las,” and “los,” they are direct object pronouns.
In simple terms and without too many definitions, direct object pronouns are words that replace something or someone in a sentence.
We need to take into account these important questions:
What? – ¿Qué?
Who? – ¿Quién?
Example 1
Carla pinta la casa.
Nos preguntamos: ¿Qué pinta?
La casa ✅
Como “casa” es femenina y singular ponemos “la”
Shorter form: Carla la pinta 🎊
Example 2
Luis vio a mi amigo en el parque.
Nos preguntamos ¿A quién vio?
A mi amigo ✅
Como “amigo” es masculino y singular ponemos “lo”
Shorter form: Luis lo vio. 🎉
Example 3
Nosotros compramos unos plátanos.
Nos preguntamos: ¿Qué compramos?
Unos plátanos ✅
Como “plátanos” es masculino y plural ponemos “los”
Shorter form: nosotros los compramos. 🎊
Example 4
Mis padres visitaron a mis tías.
Nos preguntamos: ¿A quiénes visitaron?
A mis tías ✅
Como “tías” es femenino y plural ponemos “las”
Shorter form: mis padres las visitaron. 🎉
These are just examples with the third person singular and plural. There is much more information to learn. However, I hope these examples help you better understand the topic.
For more information, you can bring up the topic in our lessons, and I’ll be happy to explain.
